Among membrane processes, which are driven by pressure, Ultra Filtration Plant Process
is a fraction technique that can simultaneously concentrate macro molecules or colloidal substances. It retains only macro molecules or particles larger than about 10-20 A (approx:0.001–0.02um). Since ultra filtration deals with the separation of fairly large molecules, such as natural polymers and colloidally dispersed compounds etc. The osmotic pressure involved in UF processes is very low. This UF needs low pressures for operation, which would lower equipment and operating (pumping)costs. Ultra filtration and Nano filtration membranes are high density micro porous skin cast onto a highly porous substructure. The substructure acts only as support for the extremely thin active layer and generally has no effect on the filtration characteristics of the membrane. Since the actual discriminating barrier is extremely thin, very high flux can be easily achieved. Due to the highly asymmetric structure, all rejected material is retained on the membrane surface and internal pore fouling is virtually eliminated.
